Reality television, ah yeah. Excellent for diverting one’s focus away from the state of the world and into the interpersonal troubles of others. Although the first reality program aired in the 1970s, the genre didn’t take off until The Real World debuted on MTV in the 1990s. There was a boom of reality TV series during the time. Everything from Bunnies exhibiting what it’s like to live in the Playboy Mansion to singing your heart out for a golden ticket to Hollywood was devoured by networks. Reality television has many wonderful features, yet it is also prevalent. From “The Bachelor” to “Top Chef,” this list offers something for everyone. Without further ado, here is a list of the top reality shows of all time, not in chronological order (so don’t get furious at us if you believe this is a rating), and where you can find them. Many of them vanished into the YouTube vacuum. The only thing that some of them don’t have is a Hulu account. In any case, you’ll have a long and pleasurable time. Perhaps you’ll discover a new favorite show.
Are You The One
In one of MTV’s last truly relevant dating shows, 20 people are placed in a home in Hawaii with the goal of finding their “perfect mates,” all of whom are right up there in that house with them. The relationship matches are created by experts and a secret yet all-knowing mechanism. What happens when some of these people fall in love with someone who isn’t the perfect person for them? There is a lot of tension and turmoil. In 2019, the program also made history by becoming the first of its type to include solely sexually flexible individuals, making it even more difficult to locate a matching spouse. The disturbing aspect, though, is that it continues from there. If all of the Are You the One contestants discover their soul partners while on the island, they will divide a million dollars. Nevertheless, one misstep may mean catastrophe for the entire crew. Consider the worst collaborative project in history.
Chopped
Is there anything more soothing on a Sunday night than watching four chefs struggle with goat brains and Korean melon? No, I don’t think so. This Food Network favorite is a three-round competition in which chefs are given the most bizarre ingredients and must produce a gourmet dish using just those ingredients. Clearly, the goal here is to earn $10,000; the best programs typically have a reward (obviously.) The stakes must be high when competitive chefs compete to master oyster ravioli or any other delicacy. To summarize, it’s the ideal curriculum for learning how to make a five-star supper out of two pieces of leftover pizza, five saltine crackers, and a random packet of soy sauce. Never claim that reality television cannot teach you anything.
90 Day Fiancé
This is right up there with the ludicrous reality shows that TLC has given us over the years. This show follows couples from various origins and regions as they navigate the United States’ rigorous immigration requirements. The sitcom was inspired by and is wholly based on the K-1 Visa, which is only granted to foreign people who have an American fiancé or fiance and desire to enter the United States only for the purpose of marrying that person. All of the foreign fiances on the program entered the country legitimately using a fiancée visa. The interesting part is that the visa is only valid for ninety days, after which they would be obliged to depart the country. This application is as ridiculous as it sounds, and it’s amazing. Love is Blind
One of Netflix’s most popular shows is a reality program in which a group of strangers fall in love through the means of internet conversation. In a nutshell, sure. The performance’s goal is to stress the value of shared experience over superficial attraction. Things take a strange turn when the couples in question are only permitted to meet once a marriage proposal has been made. Within a month of their initial encounter, the pair proposes to marry. The thirty-five ladies and thirty-five men date each other for 10 days before narrowing down their matches. You can imagine the issues that emerge when they’ve all dated and are now face to face with one another, especially if the person you almost selected instead of your fiance is also present, as is their fiance, whom they eventually settled for after you rejected them. Indeed, most of the show is difficult to follow, but there are a few couples that, despite my reservations, I was able to root for to the end.
Project Runway
Assume it’s 2004 and the news of a new reality TV show focusing on the world of fashion has everyone delighted. Consider the year 2022, and Project Runway is still the most talked about show among fashionistas worldwide. Over the last eighteen years, the exhibition has given young fashion designers a platform to demonstrate their original creations and compete for a monetary reward, visibility in a renowned fashion magazine, and a foot in the door of a notoriously difficult market (and impress.) There is joy, despair, and, most importantly, inventive clothes.
The Real Housewives
The Real Housewives Franchise is directly responsible for one of the most major cultural trends of the twenty-first century. Do you think that’s excessive? Probably. Is this truly the case? This series has not only gone popular outside of its initial Orange County setting, but it has also provided us with some of the best memes an Internet-obsessed Gen Z could ask for (looking at you, Nene Leaks). This series, which has broadcast in locations as disparate as New York, Atlanta, Beverly Hills, Dubai, Sydney, and others, teaches us that there is no shortage of amusing, petty housewives everywhere in the globe. Another thing I’ve learnt is that no matter what they do, millions of people across the world (including myself) will be watching.
The Voice
Remember the saying “don’t judge a book by its cover?” With one little tweak, The Voice has taken that adage and ran with it: “Don’t judge a book by its cover, but judge a singer by…well, their voice.” The main prize in this singing competition is $100,000, as well as a record deal with Universal Music Group. Well-known performers like as Kelly Clarkson, John Legend, Ariana Grande, and Blake Shelton assist and guide them along the road.
