January 2018 ipsy Glam Bag

january 2018 ipsy glam bag, ipsy, subscription box, review

Today I’m reviewing my January ipsy glam bag for y’all. Several months ago I cancelled my subscription to ipsy because I wasn’t happy with the items I was receiving. I felt like my preferences were not being accounted for, and I was tired of wasting money each month on things I wouldn’t use. This is when a friend of mine suggested Boxy Charm, and I decided to sign up for that subscription box instead. Read all about that here.

That being said, I restarted my subscription this month because I wanted to try more brands, have more content for the blog, and it’s only $10/month. One thing I realized during my ipsy hiatus was that I never reviewed my bags. I got them, wasn’t pleased with some items, stored them away, and waited for the next month. Wash, rinse, repeat. However, I decided to be much better about reviewing my bags going forward. I mean how will ipsy know I’m not happy with my bags if I’m not giving them feedback? Plus, if I still am not happy with my products after a couple of months of diligent reviews, then I’ll just cancel and make sure to share my experience with y’all.

This month I’m actually thrilled with my items! I’ve already tried the charcoal mask, and loved it! It’s so smooth and luxurious feeling. I have another charcoal mask that feels a lot more like clay and isn’t as comfortable to wear while it dries. I also love the Ciaté London liquid eyeliner, Hola Neon matte liquid lipstick, and leave-in conditioner. I’ve used Alterna Caviar products off-and-on for a couple of years, and while I don’t think they are quite on the level of Oribe or Kerastase, they are much more cost-effective and still do a really good job for the price. So, I was really happy to receive the 10-in-1 leave in conditioner and heat protectant, it smooths, nourishes, strengthens, and protects against heat, so you get a ton of bang for your buck!

The only item I’m not really in love with is theBalm Mary Lou-manizer. It’s supposed to be a highlighter/eyeshadow, but I don’t think it’s great for either. It feels more like an eyeshadow, and is not as luminous as other highlighters I’ve used before, so doesn’t really work as a highlighter. But I don’t think the color is great for a stand alone eyeshadow either. So when I was reviewing the products on my ipsy profile, I made sure to mention that I didn’t love the product and rated it appropriately. Hopefully that helps me get a bag full of items I love in the future. I’ll keep y’all posted!

Instagram Roundup – January 2018

blush blouse, polka dot skirt, blush booties, instagram roundup, winter outfit

So crazy that it’s already Wednesday, but it feels like Monday because of this crazy week! We were off on Monday for MLK day, and then yesterday due to winter weather. One of the nice things about moving back to Texas from Michigan is that everything shuts down with just the whisper of ice or snow. No complaints here! I haven’t done an Instagram roundup in quite a while, so I figured I’d break up my normal posts with this giant compilation of what has been hitting my IG lately. Below each picture I will have affiliate links that you can click on to get the items. (I will make a small commission if you decide to purchase anything.)

Thank you all for supporting me! 😀

Velvet Floral Dress

Good morning, y’all! I know this was supposed to be up yesterday, but it was a completely crazy day at work, and I was exhausted by the time I got home. But anyways, how gorgeous is this velvet floral dress?! It’s also so comfortable and perfect for any season. I’ve literally been planning different ways to wear this since I got it from Shein. I love that it can be dressed up or down so easily. For my first way to wear it I decided to go with a more dressed up work look. However, it would be so perfect for strolling through the farmer’s market in the spring with a denim jacket, sneakers, and crossbody!

T-shirt dresses like this velvet floral dress can be somewhat difficult to wear because of their bodycon nature, but this dress is thick enough to fit your body without looking clingy. It also hides any problem areas you may have, which is a total win in my book. This velvet floral dress is also so easy to just throw on and go! The high neck makes it perfect for a top knot when you don’t have time to do your hair. Do you get a sense of where I’m going here? This velvet floral dress is just perfect for any situation you may have!

I feel like I say in almost every post how versatile an item is, but that’s because I intentionally purchase (or select when working with a company) pieces that I can style in many different ways. I am not a fan of wear once and toss items. That’s why I don’t really jump on every trend bandwagon no matter how many times it’s splashed across my Instagram feed–I’m looking at you popsicle stick bag. I like practical items that I can wear and reuse for years to come.

Thank you to Shein for providing this dress. All opinions are my own.
